Energy Cake technology was recently discovered in India, and in May 2010, Lockheed Martin, GCG, and India Department of Science and Technology sponsored a countrywide Innovation contest, examining hundreds of applications and technologies in the process. Energy Cakes, reviewed by an international panel of judges, won a Gold Medal, based on not only the technology itself, but also the business model and social good it can potentially impart on a global basis.

EMAG Energy Cake™ uses agricultural waste and sponge iron to produce clean burning energy bricks that can be used by local communities for many purposes. It’s a clean energy resource that prevents the consumption and destruction of local ecologies, provides jobs and training to the local community, generates local revenue, and empowers the people in communities to understand and become involved small business, manufacturing, and renewable energy industry skills. As an export product its economic impact will contribute to sustaining schools, healthcare and other critical community needs while also giving women in the community more time to care for their families and pursue other opportunities. This pilot project is just one of several economic opportunities being trialed. Currently in development for Africa this is an effort that can benefit all developing world communities.








The Technology

  • Provides more energy by weight than Natural Gas, with Zero emissions
  • Typical production per site: 5,000 to 25,000 cakes/day, with costs ranging from $200 to $100,000, respectively

  • Each 1½ kg. cake provides approximately 60,000 BTUs (30% cheaper than LPG equivalent) with zero emission
